Pass Christian Pet Care was formed in 1998 and is owned by Amber & Eugene Russell. Collectively they have 18 years experience in the pet profession. Amber was a veterinary technician for 10 years, during which time she learned to groom and oversaw kennel & hospital care for various animals. Eugene is a lifelong resident of Pass Christian. He managed Russell’s Service Center where he worked with his parents “Tom” & Alice Russell & his brother Bill Russell for 30 years. Eugene began working part time in the pet profession in 2001 when the business relocated to its current location in order to expand kennel operations. Since Hurricane Katrina he now works full time as kennel co-manager & grooming prep-technician. Through the years the Russell’s have owned many different breeds of dogs, cats, birds, fish, & reptiles in addition to farm animals. They consider all animals to be a part of the family. At this time the Russell’s have three grown children, two grand-children, 5 dogs, & 6 cats.

The business was originally formed in the family garage with Amber grooming and no boarding. In 2001 the couple decided it was time to expand so that clients would have a comfortable, safe & healthy place to board their babies. They bought the building, which was is much need of repair, and remodeled it to fit their needs. Eventually they added living quarters next to the kennel for themselves.

In 2005 Hurricane Katrina changed all of that. They left their new home and refurbished business at 5:00 pm on August 28th with 11 dogs & 13 cats. Although they had 4 feet of water in the home where they rode out the storm, they were able to save everyone. On August 30th they returned to nothing but pieces of the original slab but vowed to rebuild bigger & better. Finding strength in each other, God, their animals, and their friends & families they were able to regroup and build their new facility in just 1 year.
